This weekend I watched two
This weekend I watched two vids, neither of which made any lasting impression. The Arnie vehicle, End of Days, I knew was going to be bad, but I needed a dose of something called ‘dark stranger’ and that something came in the form of Gabriel Byrne. Oh, to be played off the screen by Byrne, Arnold is a lucky man. (I’m not a big Byrne fan, but in small doses he’s ok.)
The other flic was ‘Angela’s Ashes’, a case of a book not really working out on screen. Alan Parker has a tendency to makes things too sweet, to ‘sinnuhmah’. The book thrives on its writer’s Frank McCourt gift with words. He gets to read some of it, narrating the film, but there’s not enough to make it work.
