Turn me on

They're stacked up on the heater, on the table, on the player, on a chair, and the racks are full and overflowing. CDs everywhere you look, from 'House, A' to 'Zazou, Hector'.

How many? I've lost count. There are tapes too. Many. Music, music everywhere and not a note to play.

I'm afraid I'll end up one of these boring old farts who cling to their old favourites and stop listening.

Tell me your favourite songs. Turn me on to something new.

A song i enjoy for a while now is Voyager from Daft Punk, it's on the Discovery album.

It gives me a 'flowery feeling' especially now with the weather beeing nice ;-)

It is background music ...but nice.

Is that HeartWorm I see?

I was listening to a cd a friend of mine gave me, of his band... and actually like it a lot. Band's called Last Harbour... not sure if their cd is readily available...

Same old, same old... 16 Horsepower, Woven Hand... Will Oldham's latest is good... I'm looking forward to the Nina Nastasia album. Uhm... Cat Power was, well, interesting (to say the least) to see in London, and she's playing the Paradiso soon. Maybe you'll like Billy Corgan's "Zwan"?

Eh, I'll hush up now... ;)

Have listened to some Mum, Lisa Gerrard, Tom McRae, Daft Punk. 'Woven Hand' I like the best so far. Keep 'm coming.

Savoy Grand - Burn the Furniture
Slow, minimalistic, depressing... You have to be in a certain mood to appreciate it, but it definitely is beautiful.

Mogwai? Playing the Melkweg thursday...

Woven Hand partly consists of 16 Horsepower members by the way, and will be providing the music with the Juli Dans performance early july in the stadsschouwburg... May be interesting... but may be crap too.

Sigur Ros? Libertines? And did I mention Wil Oldham's (Bonnie Prince Billy) Master and Everyone yet? :P

Caroline said:

I've got a ticket to see Mogwai on Thursday - though I haven't heard any of their stuff.

ps. Yes, that's Heartworm, I came across a copy and thought 'what the hell'.

Hey, see ya thursday then ;) Haven't heard any of their stuff either, but that's not going to stop me.

Carbon Leaf: Virginia band that sounds like Irish rock. Their latest album, "Echo Echo", is great.

Cowboy Mouth: southern rock band from New Orleans. Fantastic live shows. Great music. "Whatcha Gonna Do?" is still my favorite song of theirs.

Ronan Hardiman: he did the music for "Lord of the Dance". Don't hold that against him. "Anthem" is a great album.

I fall back on the Pixies, can't go wrong with them. Lemonjelly are very relaxing to listen too.

Something new?

not sure if you're into Throwing Muses or Kristen Hersch, but both new discs are worth getting. Boston band "Dresden Dolls" might be up your alley; could be something I have to bring you, so let's make sure there's another reason to get together again this year.

Not your type, I don't think, but the newest Fleetwood Mac cd is grrreat. I saw them the other night and they give me hope that maybe I too will be cool and rocking it when I'm nearly 60.

Caroline said:

I'm quite fond of Fleetwood Mac and have always been curious about Buckingham. I listened to the new album but it didn't click. Really liked their 'comeback' live performance that was filmed a few years back.

How about....

The Corrs
Westlife
Boyzone
Daniel O'Donnell

Just kidding! ;-)

But do try -

Fly Pan Am
Fontanelle
Cliff Martinez (did Traffic, NARC and Solaris scores)
The Frames' latest release "Set List".

Tip: recommending single songs works better for me than full albums.

Listened to some more stuff:

- Savoy Grand: heard one song so far ("Why did you disappear") and love the arrangements, not big on the voice but I could like this.
- Carbon Leaf's "The Boxer" - Think I'll stick to the Pogues.
- Bonnie Prince Billie: Not keen on the voice at first listen.
- Cowboy Mouth: not my thing.

(uh, picky much?)

Can't find any Fontanelle, Tom - got any titles?

I'm afraid I've got a thing for Will Young's "You and I" right now. Always a sucker for the drama ballade pop song. Gimme more of that.

Madrugada: Majesty, Vocal, Blood Shot Adult Commitment, en The Frontman.

Merel, I think I have three Madrugada CDs, bought on impulse after seeing them on TV a couple of years ago. I don't listen to them, but I have 'em. I'll dig them out.

Yeah, I'm still in love with "The Dance", it's one of two out of my ten deserted island albums that'll never change. I didn't come to love "Say You Will" until I left it on all day by accident and realized I was singing along to more than half the songs. Then I gave it a serious listen. It's the best thing they've done since "Rumours", although I still miss Christine McVie. Anyway.

My friends on 1142.net are all over this band called The Postal Service. Nice mp3 here: http://www.subpop.com/bands/postalservice/downloads.php, good enough to make me curious about the rest of their output.

Chris at uffish.com always has two or three mp3s on the site; they aren't all "good" but they're always interesting. The Steve & Eydie cover of Black Hole Sun blew me away.

Try anything that Rob Crow has something to do with. I can't stop playing and playing his older groups Heavy Vegetable and Thingy. His newer, Pinback, stuff is great too, but a little heavier.
