I’m trying out newsleecher. It’s a lot more stable and runs smoother than xnews. It’s a lot more expensive, though.

I don’t know which programme you use for getting binaries from usenet, but the lack of a proper client was the reason why I usually couldn’t be bothered. But a few weeks ago I found Newsleecher (newsleecher.com). It’s excellent! Might be worth checking out (2 weeks trialware).
