Close, but
I watched the first two parts of my Cambridge Spies DVD. I’m not disappointed. Gorgeous sets, great actors, good looking men, fab story to begin with, but the production suffers a little from ‘mini series syndrome’. We speed through the story without much time to get to know these people, their backgrounds. They’re at Cambridge, they get recruited, they shag boys, they shag girls, they’re at Guernica, they’re in court, wham, bam. This series gets a lot right except pacing and depth. I’ll grant them the liberal interpretation of the text. Instead of 4 episodes, it should have been 26 and languid as a countrylane on a summer’s eve.
