Work is interfering with my Life. This is not good. I suppose I have been lucky in being able to avoid conflict between the two for the last 15 years. Ten years ago, this kind of thing would have made me say: "Stick yer job, I choose Life". Things aren't as simple as that anymore.
It's teaching me one thing. Bending over backward to always accomodate others? You'll end up with a back ache. And another thing: People with kids get time off when their sprog's ill. Or when their partner's hurt their toe. People with pets get time to go to the bloody vet. People who are pregnant get time off for birthing the baby, then get time off to 'be a parent'. But people who live their lives off the beaten track get sweet F.A. *whines* It's SO unfair!

sorry to have to spell this out but life's not fair, it won't be fair and it never was fair......

Most employers think if you have none of the things you mentioned above then you have no life and therefore belong to the company. Left uncorrected, that can cause them to seriously take advantage...

Obviously the story is more complicated than described here. I'm not going to go into details, you'll just have to believe me when I say it is a little unfair. I may still get the time off I need, anyway. And yeah, I need it.

Yeah, and people who smoke get a 10 minute break every hour!

Caroline said:

And I don't smoke at work, so I don't even get that.

Oh by the way, I love my job. No, really. (Hi boss!) Thing is, I love other stuff as well and other stuff may not be a kid or a spouse or a pet, but they can still be family.

If you have holiday time left, it shouldn't be a problem. Based on this assumption, I thought it would be fine when I wanted to go to SXSW last year...but was by my pointy haired boss that no I couldn't that I was "integral to what we're doing right now and was needed here". Nice thing to say in a way, but I wish my salary would reflect my integral-ness ;-)

Gah. Life sucks. Working for the man sucks. Hope you get it sorted!

Your complaint is a commonw one I've heard here in the States too. If you have a family, you don't have to work as many hours. It's absurd and unfair. Several friends of mine have left jobs because of this issue; they were constantly being taken advantage of because of this issue. perhaps for your next job you should 'make up' a family.... 'cause I don't think the attidude is going to change any time soon.

hmmm, you "NEED" the time off? i just might have to start snooping around about this...
