Toast
How To: By You -An Experiment in Intuition: How to: Cook the perfect grilled cheese sandwich. On the new "How to: By you" weblog, this amusing thread about what we'd call a 'tosti' over here. Amazed at Brits not knowing their own bread. OK, so it's not called "English toasting bread", but it's the thick cut loaves of dense white 'bread' you find in any U.K. supermarket. Some are cut 'extra thick', for toasting.
Can't get it over here in Holland. All white bread here is fluffy, except Casino, and it's always cut too thinly. But then the Dutch don't have a need for special toasting bread, because toast is something they'll only when their bread gone stale but they're too cheap to throw it out. (Which I've written about here before, I'm sure.) God I miss having M&S in Amsterdam. (Someone's going to comment, 'slice your own', but it's not the same, see.)
