Movable Type licenses updated (or more blogging about blogging tools)

· Comments (5)

6A have listened to their users and changed their licenses accordingly. Since I personally had no big problems with their initial plans, I can only be even more appreciative of the current ones - they fit all of my sites just fine.

I can't wait for the personal edition of 3.0 so I can finally update U2log.com (re-design underway).

I wonder if switchers will switch back.

Yanno I wonder the same thing, I'm glad I stuck around for these new changes. Talking to a few switcher they were impressed but so far not yet talked to someone who wants to switch back ! Most have been more impressed with WP or EE (mostly because of the dynamic page rendering)

I think if the mt-view.cgi was better integrated into MT, ie it was made easier to implement dynamic pages then some would switch back .Currently one must hack (I believe) MT to have it render dynamically !

Arvind, MT renders dynamically just fine via mt-view.cgi. No need to hack. It's just completely undocumented which means that you essentially have to dig around in the code to figure out HOW to do it and then feel around in the dark until you succeed.

I think all of that will become clearer in the coming months.

I bought a new unlimited license yesterday. The sites I hadn't switched to something else will probably stay with MT. But the ones I had switched to WP and the one under development with TXP, I have no intention to switching to MT. That ship has sailed.

MT still dominates the panorama. WP, although interesting ande seemingly powerful, is still raw, requiring too much hacking and kicking.
So, I switched back :)

I won't be going back.

My site isn't quite where I want it to be yet, but that's out of neglect on my part. Drupal is performing admirably and quite flexible. It's got the added bonus of being GPL, and if I come up with any mods or even just an original theme, it'll be submitted to the site for others to use or tear apart. I can dig into the code as far as I want and don't have to worry about dev liscencing or distributing restricted code.
