Canon G-III QL 17
Welcome to the newest member of the family, a Canon QL17, a.k.a. Canonet GIII. It's a 1970's rangefinder camera, with a 40mm/1.7 lens -- sometimes called a 'poor man's Leica'.
It's gorgeous. Although the case is pretty knackered, the camera itself is in pristine condition - no scratches at all. It was recently serviced and the seller threw in a new battery and a rubber ring to make it fit (the original mercury batteries are no longer made). It works completely manually too.
Canonet deserves to go on holidays with me, but although it is quite small, it's heavy enough to kill a large man. Hmm. Maybe that's an extra reason to bring it.
omigod - a real camera with real film! really impressive ... or should I say intimidating... I flunked photography in art school and became traumatized from that moment till when I got my hands on my first digital camera... I now enjoy my picture taking life very much and - who knew - even get compliments!
BUT the real photo camera still makes me shudder, I realized as I looked at your posting.
Is there a cure?
A cure... I'm not sure. My skills have improved since I went digital a few years back, that's one thing that's certain. Now I hope to take what I've learnt back into the analog world. I tried to use this new one today and forgot to focus both times I took a picture - so used to auto focus!
Kudos! I've been using the Canonet for a few months now. It's pretty nifty. So quiet.
I'm on the verge of picking up a Nikon d70, going DSLR finally. It's odd because I'm comfortable with film but have never really used a fancy pants SLR before - all my film cameras are old school/manual ones. But that's also the other reason I want to get a DSLR - to learn how to use all the fancy pants stuff.
