Wounded knee

Went to see a physiotherapist for my gammy knee. Turns out it’s not too bad, my knee cap’s irritated, but if I don’t take care I’ll be having problems for a long time. He’ll be setting up a training scheme for me. Meanwhile I…

* can walk briskly but should not stroll
* shouldn’t stand for too long
* should avoid bending knee when sitting down
* must avoid the stairs as much as I can (take elevator)
* should play more sports (tennis season about to start, am considering fitness club)
* must ride my bike more often, but not overdo it (I avoid the bike in winter because of the cold. Wimp.)
* could do with losing some weight (I’d be ok if I were taller, but my shortness makes me more sensitive. Grr. My shortness is the cause of so much trouble.)

Swimming is a great sport to take up when you’ve problems with things like knees. The water helps support and cushion the joints, and plus, swimming is just fun!

There’s not much wrong with short. Some of my best friends are short. Some are even shorter than me.

Heh. You can just tell the ones that don’t like you. Because they tell you to swim in the Irish sea ;)

@Rogue: yet the water resistance is so high knee problems actually can become worse. As for most strokes you have to bend your knees.

@ijsbrand: I would guess that swimming would be okay, as C has already been told to do more sports. In water you weigh about a tenth of your normal weight, and the range of motion is much wider, as the water supports the weight of your limbs. It is also good because of the body’s natural buoyency.

But yeah, I do agree, it is possible to be overdone and to damage yourself even more. Little and often, as my mam would say.
