Gonna need this. The cheapo preamp I bought does work, but this set up is so neat it's hard to resist. $199. Damn.

Got thinking about Curve by way of a MBV thread on MeFi. YouTube has the goods. Had forgotten how much Garbage ripped them off.

Spooks is back... and even better news, they're already filming a 6th season!
Spooks is back and it's possibly the best thing on the BBC right now. I've almost forgotten about S1&2's crew, it's a great thing the supporting cast have stayed on. The good news is, a 6th season has been commissioned and is being filmed right now.
I'm rooting for Harry and Ruth.

If I was half as witty as Unreliable Witness is, I'd know what to write, but quite frankly I'm overcome with 'OMG, I have diabetes and I knew this can happen, but not to me or anybody I know, and I better take my pills regularly and stick to my diet a lot better and not skip any of my 3-monthly check ups and fuck me U.W. is a strong s.o.b.'
'Good morning, Department of health, how can I help you?'
Me: 'I think I have a problem with roaches. What can I do?'
'Come by our office with one of them, so we can determine what kind it is.'
Me: 'Oh. Ok, thanks.' (thinks 'Eeeew!')
Twenty years I've been travelling to Ireland, clocking up an impressive 40+ visits. I never really kept track of my stays, regrettably, but in my mind I've been almost absolutely everywhere around the country. Three times three weeks hitching around from Dublin to Cork to Galway, Sligo and back. Three or four times taking buses everywhere up and down the west coast. Three trips by car: West Cork, Galway, Antrim/Donegal. Day trips to Kilkenny and Wicklow.
I know I've never been to Wexford or to Waterford. But only now I realise that I haven't done what every tourist has done: I've never done the Ring of Kerry.
Why? Well, at first I never went there, because everybody did it and I'm contrary like that. And then, I simply forgot. Always cut through from Kenmare to Killarney, leaving the Iveragh Peninsula and its tourist trail to the Yanks, the Germans and the hippies.
I'll have to make up for it soon.

Cute as a button.
I know nothing about cars and even less about car rentals. I was checking tariffs earlier today, because we are renting a car for our trip to Ireland this October, and I was surprised at the price difference between Avis and Hertz. Same car, same week... but Hertz came out 50 euro cheaper. I had expected prices to be the same between such seemingly similar competing companies. Who can shed light on this?

I was just thinking, have you ever met ANYONE who doesn't like Ireland? It's got to be one of the most popular countries in the whole wide world. Why is that?

Great pictures taken in and around Hokkaido
Hate it when that happens, I'm watching the BBC's coverage of the Reading and Leeds festivals and there was one song I liked by a band I didn't recognise and I missed their introduction. They were joined by rappers (Dizzee Rascal?) on stage, but it looked like it was just a gimmick for the festival. They sounded quite punky and the only lyric I could make out was 'In the city... it's alright' or something like that.
... must have been The Rakes, judging from this picture, and these lyrics:
in the city is a riot,22 grand job
in the city is a riot,22 grand job
in the city is a riot,22 grand job
in the city is a riot, there's aint nice
it's alright,it' alright

I've got a spare ticket for INXS in Amsterdam (Paradiso), October 10th, since I'll be out of the country that week. If anyone wants it... drop me a line.
