Not very LOLcorgan.
Am away till September 4, but I might send some pictures to my Flickr account and will probably Twitter too.
Or maybe you'll spot me on one of the Nice webcams.
While I'm gone, here's something to keep you occupied: on the 28th (that's Tuesday) you should be able to download a lovely mp3 of the classic 'Singing in the Rain' (as interpreted by GF) from Lemonland.net. I'll link to the news item, but you may have to go to the site's front page to find it.
I'm not sure if it's a one day only download or whether they're going to keep it up there, so I'm going to try to download it later today if I find a good internet place in Nice. If that doesn't work I'm going to have to rely on one of you to do the honours for me.

What do you do when the sun's behind the stage you're pointing your lens at? Work with what you have. This is Moke's Phil Tilli, on the UPC stage at this year's 'Uitmarkt'. The band was soundchecking for their MTV appearance later that day.

"twitter API experiment "
Apologies to those of you browsing this site with MSIE. I've finally fixed the glaring javascript error that must have plagued you for the longest time. I had some time to waste here on my last day at NPO.
We wrapped things up quite nicely last night with drinks and dinner, enjoying some rare sunshine this summer at the restaurant's outdoor seating. Boss W. made a lovely speech, reminiscing about the old days. My teamleader bought me a cute nerdy present and we had a really good time. Even if the dimsum starter was a little funny.
So now it's time for me to relax and try not to stress out too much before joining my new employers on September 10.

Meeting about Consumer generated video content
For reasons known only to myself (I'm baffled), for my holidays next week I've decided to fly into Nice and then travel back via Marseille, Paris and Brussels. I fly in on Tuesday 28th, will stay in Nice for a few days, move on to Marseille on the 31st, stay a few more days and then from there take a train down to Paris, where - after a three hour break - it's off to Brussels, arriving in the early evening. I'm travelling first class, so it should be fairly comfortable.
From there I have two options. Go straight on to Amsterdam, which is another three hour trip, or stay over in Brussels, and the next day go photo hunting and have lunch at Scheltema before catching the train back home.
... can't seem to make up my mind.
Did you see what I did there? Embedded a Google Map.

Make a video clip with your pictures
I'm off to the South of France next week and was researching my trip online. Found this on Wikitravel, among recommended drinking places for the city of Nice:
Ma Nolan's [6] - Right in the heart of the 'Old Town' and next to the opera, Ma Nolan's has everything you would expect from an Irish pub and more. Live music every night, major sporting events on 4 screens, really good food and very friendly staff. This place is a must.
Why anyone would want to go to an Irish pub outside of Ireland in the first place I find less and less easy to understand as I grow older, but really... four screens of sporting events?
Thanks, I think I'll pass.

"Irish actors Jason O'Mara and Colm Meaney have been lined up to play the lead roles in the US version of hit BBC drama Life on Mars."
Dutch public broadcaster VPRO's music portal 3VOOR12 is reporting from the three-day Lowlands Festival in Biddinghuizen, The Netherlands, using a very cool mashup site www.vpro.nl/lowlandsmashup.
The page, a collaboration between 3VOOR12 and Today's Art combines a live broadcast from the festival, photos from the Flickr Lowlands pool, video reports at Kyte.tv, weather forecasts and a Twitter and Jaiku feed. Viewers at home and audience members as well as professional reporters on site use the Twitter feed to cover the festival.
To post to the Twitter stream, follow Twitter user 3VOOR12, then post your tweets as usual, but start your sentence with #LL07. Alternatively, log in straight from the mashup (bottom menu, click 'Twitter/Jaiku' Direct').
Lowlands 2007 takes place August 17, 18, 19. The festival is sold out.

"Jesus Loves You Too". Some anti-Bono stuff in the form of art.
I recently switched from KPN to Vodafone to get a good deal on the Nokia N95. I'm terribly brand-loyal, but KPN aren't the most happening provider around and they couldn't offer me anything better than 370 euro. I picked up the phone for 129 € from the Vodafone shop yesterday and so far I am very happy with it and with Vodafone service. I haven't actually used the phone to speak to anyone yet, but then I'm probably an a-typical mobile user.
Rarely do I use my mobile phones to ring someone. I own one so people can phone me, which also rarely happens. So I mostly use my phone for texting (SMS), checking mail and for entertainment. By entertainment I mean reading/posting to websites and blogs, feeds, etc. I do some light moblogging too. I don't really play games at all, though if I could find a good Bejeweled clone for Symbian, I'd be tempted.
So yes, the Nokia n95. 'What computers have become', isn't that the advertising pitch? Well, I'm not selling off my desk- and laptops yet, but it certainly is an action-packed gadget.
What I like:
- The size. It's just right for me.
- Integrated Vox and Flickr. Connect using WiFi. Rocks!
- The radio auto-installs stations. Probably nothing new, but I like it.
- The ext speakers are good enough to listen to music to.
- The screen. Makes every crappy picture shine.
- The colour ('plum'). So stylish.
- The software, PC suite, is solid.
- Maps. Have yet to get the hang of it, but could be fun.
What I don't like:
- The camera. Thank you, I'll use a real one.
- Sometimes the screen is slow refreshing.
- The double slide feels a little rickety.
- The chrome nav keys are ugly. Why can't the front of the phone be as pretty as the back?
- Battery life. Using the phone for anything other than a phone will drain it like a hungry baby on a mother's tit.
Applications
Here are some lovely third party applications that I've installed on the phone:
- Opera Mini
- Gmail mobile (Superb client made by Google.)
- Best MessageStorer (Shareware app to backup SMS in a text or csv file. Isn't it bizarre they haven't got this built into PC Suite yet?)
- Putty (The well known telnet/ssh client.)
- VOX (Slick client, made by 6A)
- EQO Mobile (IM client, among other things - not sure about this one yet)
- Google Maps
- jTwitter (This looks better than TinyTwitter which I ran on my SonyEricsson.)
- Y-Browser (A fully enabled file browser, better than the native app)
- Yamigo (The server I'm using in the native IM app)
Wishlist
- It would be great if these phones had more storage capacity so you could use them to store the pictures you take with your real camera.
To protect the phone from scratching, I got a Crumpler P.P. 55 sleeve instead of Nokia's own expensive leather case.
Did I mention that I love this phone? I was able to do most of what I do with it with my previous phones (the ancient Nokia 3650 more so than the SE k750i - there seems to be more software for the Symbian OS.), but this is the first one where everything feels stable and reliable, even with the notoriously crappy Bluetooth connection on my PC.
I'm glad I can put the k750i to rest. I'm never switching phone brands again.

"The Rolleiflex MiniDigi Proudly Continues The Rollei Twin Lens Reflex Tradition"
Sabra and Neil from 'So you think you can dance' perform a really cool jazz routine to the Eurythmics 'Sweet dreams'. I'm not keen on Neil as a dancer, (it's his posture, the shoulders) but he does know how to drama it up. Sabra's just so elegant, and amazing since she only recently picked up dance.
SYTYCD is one of my guilty pleasures though this year isn't as compelling as last year and I have no clear favourites. It's an American show, but presented by - British - Cat Deeley, which certainly helps things along nicely.

Ah DAMMIT, they've exposed our secret haunt, The Library Bar
Having blogged 'privately' at VOX for a year I am now starting to feel a little claustrophobic in the safe little world we've created there. I think I'm ready to blog openly again. I never thought I'd miss comments from random readers, but I guess I do.
The upcoming release of MT4 is another incentive, I'd like to get to know it intimately, before I apply it to my other sites.
So I'll keep using VOX for what's really 'private' and do everything else here at eachman.com. I don't know if I can bring my readership back up to its former size... unique visitors have dwindled to 48 per day, returning to 13. Regular updates should help.
