I need pop

· Comments (7)
There's too much rock in my life. Too much white boy angst. My own Last.fm radio station depresses me, so I tend to tune into Mike's since our musical compatibility rating is 'High', but he's got a lot more Kylie, Sugababes and Britney Spears in his playlist.

So help me out. Post your pop recommendations for 2007/8, singles rather than albums, in the comments and fill my life with earworms.

I didn't do that much pure pop this year, by comparison to others. These stood out:

Roisin Murphy - Overpowered
Rihanna - Umbrella
Robyn - Handle Me
Groove Armada - Song 4 Mutya
Hellogoodbye - Here In Your Arms
Bjork - Declare Independence
Jamie T - Sheila

If you fancy some white-boy-non-angst, you might wanna give Pop Levi a go. A bit too glam rock for me.

Nuts. Missed the 2007/8 bit. Soz!

Calvin Harris - Acceptable in the 80s.

But I didn't do much pop either, although I'd drop Jamie T off that list of Hg's, personally.

Tip - I 'acquire' the "Now" compilations, filter them for anything approaching decent and go from there.

Amerie's two singles from this year: "Take Control" and "Gotta Work."

Robyn's "With Every Heartbeat," "Konichiwa Bitches," and most especially "Be Mine!" The whole ROBYN album is superb.

I prefer Calvin Harris' "The Girls" to "Acceptable In The 80s," but hey. The rest of the album is shit though, don't bother.

Kylie's "Wow" and "The One" from the new album (And "2 Hearts" obvs).

It's pop-rock rather than dance-pop, but: The New Pornographers' "Myriad Harbor" is one of the best songs ever written about New York City. Maybe it'll entice you to come back for another visit. ;-)

And yeah, Rihanna's "Umbrella" is obviously a definite but I also adore "Don't Stop The Music" and "Shut Up And Drive" from that album. The whole first half is great, really.

I have actually been saving up for a trip to New York/USA. 'Actually' as in automatically transfering a fixed amount of cash in a savings account every month.

Thanks for the pop tips, everybody.
