Most viewed: Zaandam, ‘schaatsen slijpen’
This was my most viewed picture on Flickr yesterday, an image of a sign outside a sports shop in Zaandam that reads ‘Skates sharpening’.
The Netherlands has ‘ice fever’, everybody’s out there skating on natural ice.
Although I used to like the act of skating, I no longer have skates and I detest winter. I wouldn’t willingly spend more time in the cold than necessary. I guess I really am not a ‘gezonde Hollandse meid’.
I’d rather see temperatures rise. You’ve all had your fun, now let me defrost.

I am completely with you. Lots of folks around here (wife included) think it’s so great to have winter, especially cold (-30), snowy (6-10 inches) winter.
I’d be okay with visiting a place like this for a couple weeks to experience it, but regular life should not require bundling up for 15 minutes just to go outside to the car.
IMHO.
(sorry – you got me on a bit of rant. Finding someone else who feels as I do got me all worked up)
Looking at the weather report it looks I got my wish. Thaw sets in tomorrow. It’s already a lot warmer indoors now than it was in this afternoon.
