Michael Been dies at Pukkelpop
The Call’s frontman Michael Been has died aged 60. He suffered a heart attack on August 19 at Belgium’s Pukkelpop festival . He was working as soundman for his son Robert Levon Been’s band Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.
I was a fan of The Call in the mid-Eighties. Joined their USA fanclub, even. They kind of occupied a place in between U2, Simple Minds and The Alarm. One of those bands that didn’t let their Christianity hinder them in reaching outside of the perceived demographic. It didn’t bother me, anyway. I saw them play once at The Paradiso in Amsterdam.
Such a beautiful voice. RIP, Michael.
