Not at the fish stand, please

You see them in Asian supermarkets, the mismatched couples: large Caucasian men and their tiny, tiny Asian girlfriends. Retired marines, you know the type. Standing there a little stupidly while the girl decides what’s for dinner. It always creeps me out a little. Sue me.

But when they stand next to you? And she’s buying him food? Dressed in a quasi schoolgirl outfit, a thin plaid skirt? And his huge hand is fondling her ass crack? While you contemplate your lunch?

You kind of lose your appetite.

Sabbatical

I was starting to wonder if things would ever go back to normal and ding, HRM livens up the morning with a typical ‘I’m back and in a moody’. And just like that, things ARE back to normal in a ‘jump’/'how high?’ way. And I’m texting the entire lyrics to a song (just the verses, natch) till my thumbs ache and my dinner goes cold.

Loving it.

And if you get all that, then you know too much and I have to kill you.

In the shadow of a genius

Deborah Curtis on her late husband Ian:

“I saw a review on Amazon once, somebody had written, ‘She doesn’t understand her subject’. And I thought, ‘Well, surely that’s the point?’”
