We had 30,000 pagehits at Whedonesque.com yesterday, that’s 10,000 more
than our last record. Big fandom brouhaha today, utterly tiresome. I’m
up to my neck in all things Whedon, so it is going to be very strange
to be pulled back into U2 fandom next week. Fortunately, the band has
been playing a few new songs in the set. With four gigs on our menu,
hopefully we’ll catch most or all of those songs. Despite their tour
continuing, it’s been quiet re: U2, it’s the first and second legs that
get all the press. Now that they’ve returned to the States to play the
third leg, the pressure is off and they are under less scrutiny and can
relax a bit on stage. That makes for better shows for the jaded fan.
Anton Corbijn has an exhibition on in NYC next week, what wonderful timing of ze tall and famouz. He’s doing a signing session too, so hopefully I can pick up a copy of his new ‘Directors’ DVD and get it signed.
I hope I can go see Serenity again in NYC, but am not sure if I can
talk anybody into going. It really is a fabulous movie that deserves to
be seen by a larger audience. I’m not sure how to entice them -
probably ‘Imagine Star Wars with real actors, real dialogue and real
emotions. Without Jar Jar.’ (It’s better than the Lord of the Rings
trilogy too, and that’s because Whedon writes more relevant stories
than Tolkien does. But I won’t say that out loud. Oops, now I have.)

Ten years ago, when I built one of my first websites, it got mentioned first in the Irish Times, then in The Guardian. It was featured on the BBC, as well as appearing in most Internet magazines and books on the shelves at the time.
I’ve come a long way since then. Everybody I knew online back then has gone on to bigger, better, greater things. But none of them can boast this, I’m sure:

Went to see a physiotherapist for my gammy knee. Turns out it’s not too bad, my knee cap’s irritated, but if I don’t take care I’ll be having problems for a long time. He’ll be setting up a training scheme for me. Meanwhile I…
* can walk briskly but should not stroll
* shouldn’t stand for too long
* should avoid bending knee when sitting down
* must avoid the stairs as much as I can (take elevator)
* should play more sports (tennis season about to start, am considering fitness club)
* must ride my bike more often, but not overdo it (I avoid the bike in winter because of the cold. Wimp.)
* could do with losing some weight (I’d be ok if I were taller, but my shortness makes me more sensitive. Grr. My shortness is the cause of so much trouble.)

Dutch film maker Theo van Gogh was murdered in the vicinity of Oosterpark in Amsterdam this morning.
He was shot and stabbed several times. A note was pinned on Van Gogh’s body.
The killer was apprehended by Dutch police after a shoot out in Oosterpark. He is a 26 year old man of both Dutch and Moroccan nationality.
Van Gogh, controversial and outspoken, was working on a film on Dutch politician Pim Fortuyn, who was murdered two years ago.

On a personal note, the murder, the shoot out and arrest of the killer took place some 500 meters from my home.
