Perneau, live at Club Meander

You don't always get all members of a band together in one shot. This is Perneau, from Utrecht. The bass player's an ex-colleague of mine and I went to the show specifically to take pictures. I've got a nice set on Flickr that's currently private as I'd like the band to see them first.

Please buy my lovely Crumpler

All the items I put up for auction a while back were sold. So here's another thing that needs a good home. It's my gorgeous black/grey Crumpler Stripper Ripper, a photo and laptop bag. It fits a 17" laptop, 1 camera body, up to 4 lenses, cables and accessories or your toiletries, magazines, and carry on clothing. It is so awesome I'd be married to it, if it weren't just a tad too big and too heavy for me when packed.
crumpler_ripper_tripper.jpgYou'll find the auction on Marktplaats. I paid around 120 Euro for it and I used it only once. Bidding starts at 60 euro. Click through to see the inside.

Selling the camera surplus

I've put some items up for sale on Marktplaats (a Dutch auction site).

An Olympus c5050-z. It's a lovely black 5.0 megapixel camera that I bought 2nd hand. Barely used by me or its previous owner. I don't have the box, but do have the manuals, software, cables and its remote control. This camera has a swivelly viewer, so it's good for stealth street photography. Works with Compact Flash and XD-cards.  (Reserved)

A Fujifilm Finepix F30. Former camera of the year. It's a little gem, but I never took to it and have recently switched back to the Canon Ixus range. I've offered it to someone looking for one, so they've got dibs, but let me know if you'd like to be its new master.
(Reserved)

A fantastic Manfrotto 055XDB + 804RC2, Tripod and 3-way head. Really, I love this thing, but it's too heavy to lug around and I've hardly used it for anything else but taking the odd self portrait. It needs a better home. (Sold.)

And if you are a collector and are looking for some compact 35mm rangefinders, I have a few  items I'm thinking of parting with. I wish I had more time to go out and shoot with them, but I can hardly find a minute to use my modern cameras.

Also for sale: a movers' box full of English language literature. Make me a reasonable offer. ( = you can have it for next to nothing)

Electric Co in Schiedam

Electric Co

I don't see cover bands as a rule, but since I was at this 'Joshua Tree 20th anniversary release party' anyway I thought it would be good practice to shoot the band and try 'different' things. And not be afraid to screw up the shoot. In the end I didn't try that many 'different' things, but putting a 20mm on the body did give me a different perspective, har har. I am very pleased with this Sigma 20/1.8's performance in concert circumstances. It's got great colours.

Not a lot of concerts photographers shoot with primes (= fixed focal length lenses) like I do. They're either sporting their 70-200's zoom, or some variant of a 24-70, or wider - I always see this one guy who always has some kind of really flat lens on his body, it hardly protrudes from the body. I hardly ever use anything wider than 50mm, as I tend to go for close ups. Maybe it's time to reevaluate, get a wide zoom other than my Sigma 24-70/2.8, which I've tried to use before but doesn't seem to work that well.

The lad shooting next to me at the The National gig was using a Tamron 17-50/2.8. I might get me one of those for starters, before I splash out for a Canon 16-35/2.8L .

I hardly ever get a drummer shot, but the light at this show was great. See the full set at Flickr. (slideshow)

Sinéad O'Connor
{Sinead O'Connor - Melkweg, Amsterdam, 15/11/2007.}

Never mind that the band absolutely murdered You Made Me The Thief Of Your Heart, the non-performance, the crippling shyness and the obvious throat bug.

I kind of liked the suit.

As seen in a narrow street on the edge of Vieux Nice, near Promenade des Anglaises. I went through my holiday pictures again and added a bunch to the set at Flickr. Watch the slideshow.
