Was the net slow for you yesterday? My transatlantic connection was completely throttled. It’s a wild guess, but it may have been the 140260 people torrenting the Season 2 premiere of Heroes combined with the 113347 breaking the law for Prison Break S3x02. And that’s just counting the ones listed on eztv.

I remember (cue string quartet) when you’d get pistol whipped for
including a 50 kb attachment and extradited for allowing HTML mail. And I’d be the one dishing out the punishments. Now
I’m hoovering a couple of Gigabytes per day and nobody bats an eyelid, least of all myself.

Are torrents clogging up our pipes? They may be, but that’s probably not the reason why CRIA (Canadian recording industry association) shut down the popular Demonoid tracker today.

I tried but couldn’t find any links to support the theory. I do remember reading reports some years back about bittorrents killing bandwidth.

Took a ferry from Amsterdam CS to Velsen, and a bus to IJmuiden, in search of photographs and fresh fish.

Ended up on IJmuiden beach and at a fair on the promenade, awash with other day trippers.

Everything was ugly. Cheap ware on sale. Burger joints and football jerseys. People.

A seamen’s choir was murdering Irish traditionals (Fiddler’s Green, Black Velvet Band, translated in Dutch.). Hoompapa, hoompapa.

I picked a restaurant, ordered Redfish, ate and watched the other, mainly elderly, people there.

At the table behind me, a man was telling a story about a woman who had lost control and had let everything go. Couldn’t cope with anything. Hadn’t opened her mail, hadn’t paid any bills, or taxes until she was declared bankrupt.

A nasty scale stuck at the back of my throat. I ran for the bus, but the driver wouldn’t stop.

This has been bothering me all weekend. I have some MP3′s at work, a full (recently released?) album by a band whose name I can’t recall. I’d never heard of them before, but they may have been around for a while. My colleague passed them on to me. I went through all the Pitchfork reviews and current charts yesterdat, but couldn’t find them. I don’t know anything about the band and haven’t heard the songs enough to say anything about them, but their singer sounds a lot like Tom Jones. I think they’re British, but they might not be. I think their name sounded a little odd or funny, in that it didn’t fit with the music they played. I could wait till tomorrow to find out, but maybe you can tell me right now.Update: Duh. Remembered I can access work mail from home, found the original mail with the download link. The band is called Electric Six . If the Scissor Sisters played rock music, that’s what they sound like.

Can you remember any of the song titles?

Futureheads maybe? Killers? Not sure about the Tom Jones thing though..
Gordon – 08 May 2005 – 09:52

No, can’t remember anything. Other than it isn’t the Killers or the Futureheads, or Interpol, or Bloc Party. They’re not one of the ‘new new wave’ bands, afaik.
Caroline – 08 May 2005 – 09:52

Electric Six? Tom Jones?? ;-)
Gordon – 08 May 2005 – 09:52

I’m not the only one who thinks so:

http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/m..

Check out the song Future is in the Future – where it’s most noticeable.
Caroline – 08 May 2005 – 09:52

Ever tried MusicBrainz? It’ll analyse an MP3 and tell you what song it is. It works pretty well. On Mac there’s something called IEatBrainz that’ll take your iTunes library and let you ID any song. I’m sure there’s something similar on the PC.
Andy – 08 May 2005 – 09:53

That wasn’t really the problem. The files were properly named, but they were at work and I was at home.
Caroline – 08 May 2005 – 09:53

Aaah, fair enough. Anyway, from what I see, I should have assumed you’d be on top of such things.
Andy – 08 May 2005 – 09:53

Have you heard their first album, “Fire”?
Milo – 08 May 2005 – 09:53

No, I haven’t, should I?
Caroline – 08 May 2005 – 09:53

It’s a lot more fun than this one, so… maybe.
Milo – 08 May 2005 – 09:53

I heard the singles from the first album, this album is completely different. I downloaded it after you wrote about it. Sounds nice.
